'People are afraid' - the reasons 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the squad everyone fears.

There's little doubt why Arsenal have become countless pundits' preferred choice to win the Premier League in the current campaign.

Examine their results against Fulham and Crystal Palace in contrast with those same matches during the prior term.

The Gunners have overcome all of them this time around, but lost 10 points across those games as they fell away in the title race previously.

Impenetrable Rearguard

Arsenal's defensive strength is a primary factor why they are looking well positioned to finally fulfil their title target.

They lead the league for unbreached games (6), goals conceded (3), attempts against (72), quality opportunities against (19) and expected goals against (5.3).

The defensive partnership of Gabriel and William Saliba is potentially the best in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Proficiency

Their threat from set-pieces is well known, but opposition teams still don't know how to neutralize the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have notched 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals resulting from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a daunting aura. People are just fearful of them and it is wonderful to see."

Title Credentials

What is especially impressive about Arsenal's commencement to the campaign is they have also faced Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United away from home and Manchester City at home - and are still ahead by four points at the top.

While they maintain victories, their long-standing opponents face difficulties. This marks the first time at this juncture of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The scrutiny was on manager Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having invested around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in pursuit of that elusive first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far proven successful in remarkable manner, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and having the most resilient defense, despite several injuries.

  • Clean sheets in three straight Premier League games
  • Nearly 6.5 hours without allowing a goal
  • Only three goals in 12 games across all competitions

Former players and analysts have labeled Arteta's men as a "powerhouse, looking difficult to stop" with the whole club now performing with confidence and purpose.
